Traditionally the Irish Antique Dealers Association, the IADA, holds its premier event, The Irish Antique Dealers Fair, once a year and this, its 45th year, will again be held in the Royal Dublin Society Main Hall, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4 at the end of September 2010. About 40 of our Members, who themselves represent a diverse range of disciplines, exhibited, last September, their finest wares from collectibles to iconic Irish pieces. What makes this Fair unique in Ireland is that it is the only Fair where Strict Vetting and Date Lines are applied to all the exhibits. Throughout this, our premier event, our Members presented antiques as excellent value and fine investments.

For the first time the IADA, in collaboration with the Interiors Association, presented an exhibition spectacular offering a wonderful view of antiques in a modernistic setting. This was a very popular ‘must see’ for all.

A ‘live’ Restoration Project was on view throughout the duration of the Fair. Daly Antique Services restored an 18th C Irish Mahogany Tallboy, supplied by Johnston Antiques of Francis St, Dublin. The 18th century Tallboy was in very neglected condition but luckily had not been tampered with by ‘non-experts’ during its’ 200 plus year history. Over the duration of the 5 day Fair the staff of Daly Antique Services took the Tallboy apart into its component pieces, repaired all the joints and bracket feet, patched damaged veneers, re-assembled the piece and polished it back to its former glory. This fascinating exercise attracted huge interest from the crowds attending the fair. Daly Antique Services were also delighted to answer the multitude of interesting questions posed by the audience.

Mr. Robert O’Byrne, former Fine Art correspondent for the Irish Times, launch his critically acclaimed book ‘ Romantic Irish Homes’ which was available for viewing and purchase at the Fair.

The IADA held a very successful Valuation Day during the Fair when members of the public were invited to bring along their treasures to be Appraised and Valued by IADA Experts.
