IADA 2010 Bursary

 

 

We are delighted to announce this year’s Bursary. This bursary of €10,000 will be awarded to the most suitable applicant who wants to study restoration, conservation and repair techniques for the decorative arts and antiques – furniture, paintings, metalwork, horology, glass, ceramics, porcelain, jewellery, textiles.

The applicant must detail what ancillary service they would provide antique collectors and dealers on completion of their chosen course of study.

The recipient will be announced at a special presentation at this year’s IADA Antiques Fair  in Dublin’s RDS, September 23rd – 26th, 2010. (date to be announced)

In maintaining an appreciation of the decorative arts, we want to encourage professional training in preservation of this rich cultural heritage. We feel this is a great opportunity for someone to benefit learn and provide a much needed service. Skilled craftspeople are essential to maintain an appreciation and essentially the value, beauty and historical importance of antiques.  We are are noticing fewer and fewer working in this area, and we hope the bursary will ensure for this and future generations of antique collectors the preservation of their pieces.

Applications are welcome from residents of Ireland, north and south, wishing to work or to extend their current specialistion in this ancillary service to the antiques market in Ireland and from those who are already studying or working in this area. 

The 2010 IADA €10,000 Bursary has been made possible by Mr. Louis O’Sullivan. Louis O’Sullivan has a forty five year association with the IADA as organiser of fine art and antique fairs in Ireland and the Association’s Annual Fair in Dublin’s RDS. The IADA are most grateful to Mr. O’Sullivan for his continued support and generosity.

Applications are now being accepted.

The closing date for applications is August 27th 2010.

A judging panel will decide on the most suitable applicant. Depending on the calibre of entries, the Bursary may be divided and awarded to more than one candidate as the judges may deem appropriate.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

To apply for the 2010 IADA Bursary applicants must supply the following information:

- Submission of suitability (max 300 words)

 - Proposed /Current Course with college details and course dates (the recipient must       undertake their chosen course by or before October 2011; study can be undertaken within the EU)

 - Previous relevant courses undertaken / qualifications already received (not essential)

 - Relevant  experience

 - Outline of how the bursary would be used, including but not limited to: course fees; accommodation/ subsistence costs; study expenses; equipment; business set up & operating costs

 - C.V. and contact details inlcuding email

All applications will be acknowledged on receipt by email but ALL applications MUST be in writing. CDs / Memory sticks will not be accepted.

A shortlist will be announced in September 2010 on this website in advance of the Bursary Award at the Annual IADA Fair.
