Member Information
MacHenry Antiques was established in 1963 by Anne MacHenry in Whiteabbey village, 13 minutes from the centre of Belfast. Initially Anne dealt in small furniture and objects d’art. In 1969 a second & larger shop was opened in Jordanstown which was able to display larger pieces of period furniture and all the decorative pieces a good collection or home might want. Anne’s husband Bobby, a retired solicitor, joined her in the business at this time. It was also 1969 when the Irish Antique Dealers Association was founded. MacHenrys were one of the founding members. Anne’s son Rupert MacHenry started his own Antique business in 1972. He and Anne amalgamated their businesses in 1978 when Anne’s husband Bobby died. Over the years we have had many clients which included some famous names; Mick Jagger, Julian Loyd Webber, Enya, Mrs Walt Disney, His Excellency the Lord Gray of Naunton, Governor of Northern Ireland. The Office of Public Works, National Museum of Ireland, Ulster Museum, National Trust, Jean Kennedy Smith, ESB, The American Ambassador, The Finnish Ambassador. And many current prominent members of the Irish business world who value our discretion! Having said that the majority of our clients are people of all ages who quite simply appreciate the pleasure in furnishing their homes with beautiful antiques. They are also pleasantly surprised how very keenly antiques are currently priced.
