The son of well known auctioneer Chubby Williams, George has had a lifelong love for and interest in furniture. He began learning his trade working as a porter for his father at some of the great iconic Irish country house sales of the 70’s and 80’s. His passion well fueled for his future, he set up as a dealer and restorer in 1987, with his main focus on Irish Georgian furniture. He brought an 18th century house in Capel Street, Dublin and faithfully restored it himself and opened up his shop on the ground floor. From here he dealt successfully for many years until he got married and moved to Co. Meath where he is now based. He and his wife Maggy now welcome customers to their showroom to view their stock of 18th and early 19th century furniture. George’s vast knowledge and love of Georgian furniture and its construction, coupled with his enthusiasm for it make him very popular with his clients, and he is well known among them for talking them through each piece in the greatest detail. In addition to the showroom George has an extensive workshop where he and his wife offer a full restoration service, including traditional upholstery. All the work is carried out on the premises and George follows the old methods of the master craftsmen and cabinet makers of the 18th century.
