Antique Anglo-Indian style large Biscuit Box, Silber & Fleming C. 1880

Antique Anglo-Indian style large silver plate Biscuit Box, Silber and Fleming C. 1880. This very unusual style large biscuit barrel of ovoid shape on oval base richly decorated and engraved depicting birds amongst flowering branches against stippled background and upper bead border. The body with foliage decoration cantering a vacant shield cartouche; the handles in the form of elephant heads, hinged cover similarly decorated and with realistically textured crouching cougar handle finial. Base with marks for Silber and Fleming with the crown, fleur de lys, PGS. Silber and Fleming a business registered in 1880 at 56, Wood Street, Cheapside, London EC (sole proprietor Albert Marcius Silber, 1833-1887). Measures: 7.50 (length) x 6.00 (depth) x 7.50 (height) inches.
