Cabachon Cut Opal & Diamond Gold Dress Ring

by Brereton Jewellers

A retro 1960’s opal and diamond dress ring. The ring is hand crafted from 18ct gold. Each of the diamonds have been set in white gold to accentuate their colour. The opal is a considerable size and weighs an estimated 11.17ct. The opal has a beautiful play-of-colour consisting of reds, greens, and blues. The opal is complimented by a total of ten marquise and round cut diamonds with an estimated total weight of 0.82ct. The top of the ring measures 24.7mm x 26.5mm. We selected this ring for it’s vintage design and the quality of the opal. Most opals have a milky white appearance but the higher quality ones similar to this gem have a beautiful play-of-colour. The ring has also been fitted with an inner metal ring to give the ring grip on the finger and keep the opal facing upwards.

Brereton Jewellers

Brereton Jewellers was established in 1916 at 108 Capel Street, Dublin. Specialising in both new and antique jewellery the business has grown with the city of Dublin. John's youngest son Jack joined the business in the 1930's. By the early 1970's the third generation of Breretons, Jack's sons John and Liam, joined the company.

Shortly afterwards they opened the company's second store on Chatham Street, Dublin. The third store, opposite the General Post Office (GPO) on Dublin's O'Connell Street, opened in 1986.

Starting in 2003 the fourth generation joined the family business. Paul Brereton joined in 2003 and Derek Brereton started in 2009. Paul graduated as a gemologist from the Gemological Institute of America in 2006. Both of them now works closely with the the third generation in the running of the three unique stores.
