Unusual rare double sided Amethyst Intaglio, C.1920.

by Louis Wine

Unusual rare double sided Amethyst Intaglio, C.1920. One side depicts the profile of a goddess and the other side that of a classical beauty with hair coiffured. The fact that both images are appearing on the same gem, given the correlation between the two images, perhaps the classical beauty is being compared to the goddess. The triangular claw set facetted amethyst mounted in pierced engraved foliate 18K white gold, tapered bale with four single cut diamonds. Pendant drop measures: 1.75 x 1.25 inches.
